Have you ever noticed how quickly the mind decides what something means?
A delayed phone call becomes a problem. A difficult conversation becomes a disaster. An unexpected change becomes evidence that life is moving in the wrong direction.
The judgment arrives almost instantly.
- Good.
- Bad.
- Right.
- Wrong.
- Certain.
But what if we don't know as much as we think we do?
This Sunday, we'll begin a month-long exploration of Taoism through one of its most beloved stories: a farmer, a runaway horse, a broken leg, and a lesson that has survived for thousands of years.
Along the way, we'll explore a surprising connection between ancient wisdom and modern life. Why are we so easily pulled into reaction? Why do urgency, fear, and anxiety capture our attention so quickly? And what becomes possible when we stop rushing to conclusions and learn to meet life with a little more openness?
I'll also share a deeply personal story from the height of the AIDS epidemic, when a visit to a hospital room taught me something about presence that I wouldn't fully understand until many years later when I encountered the teachings of Taoism.
If you've ever found yourself exhausted by the pace of the world, overwhelmed by certainty, or longing for a deeper sense of trust in life's unfolding, I believe you'll find something meaningful in this conversation.
Join us Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 9:00 or 11:00 a.m., in person at the Center for Spiritual Living Santa Rosa, or online through our YouTube channel.
